Role and purpose of the Student Council in Clogheen Kerry Pike NS

Clogheen Kerry Pike NS believe that students have a very important role to play in the running of our school.

A Student Council

• helps improve school life for everybody.
• acts as the voice of the students.
• acts as a channel of communication within the school organisation between pupils, school and home.
• encourages pupils to organise events and to represent the school in a positive way during these events.

The Election Process

Every year, students from the Fifth and Sixth classes are invited to nominate themselves for a place on the Students Council. Before the election candidates are asked to present their ideas in a speech to their peers. The classes elected their council representatives. Our newly elected Student’s Council was set up in September.

Student Council Meetings

The Student Council meets once a fortnight with Mrs O’Donoghue to work towards their goals. Before each meeting, Student Council representatives gather ideas and suggestions from all classes using the suggestion boxes, which are used to form the meeting agenda. Mrs O’Donoghue may also introduce topics for discussion or highlight upcoming school events that require Student Council involvement.

Following discussions, Student Council members are assigned tasks to complete. Members are also responsible for reporting back to the student body on the outcomes of meetings.

Mrs Golden is invited to attend some meetings to stay informed about the Student Council’s goals and progress.

We are proud to introduce this year’s dedicated Student Council Members who are eager to represent their fellow students and make a positive impact on our school community. All new members were elected to the Student Council by their peers.

Together, they will work on projects and initiatives that help make Clogheen Kerry Pike NS an even better place to learn and grow!

Through our Student Council, Clogheen Kerry Pike NS hopes to give our pupils a more active role in the organisation of our school and to ensure they are listened to when making school policies and rules. Discussions in the classroom and Student Council meetings help to develop social and learning skills including speaking, listening, problem solving, project work and decision-making process.
